Urban Dictionary

Urban Dictionary is a good place to stay current on the latest additions to our seemingly ever-evolving language. It is a large database of words/terms with definitions and often hilarious usage examples. I like to visit it occasionally and browse around. I hit the Random button and see what pops up. For the record the following are all randomly generated and the usage examples come directly from Urban Dictionary:

phone a mate when its late The phonage of a mate (just for some banter) after consuming a large quantity of beer at a late hour of the evening

get at vernacular term meaning respond to (verb) got at, gettin' at

internet doood: "so yeah, ma' you need to get at me one day, yo I could take you to a movie or something."
meczilla: "excuse me?!?!"

nachos slang word for pot coined by a group of high school kids from northern VA (which spread quickly as far north as Boston, as far south as Savannah) both in honor of their favorite food and as another name for their favorite recreational drug. This name has been tested and proven for safe use in public.

In history class and across the room, "Hey man, those nachos we had this weekend were fantastic." "Yeah I know what you mean, I stuffed myself with nachos all weekend."

Brandie An intelligent woman, usually brunette, gorgeous, and goal oriented. She's one to speak her mind and you do not want to mess with Brandie. She's liable to attack at the slightest insult and she has a mean right hook. However, she can be won over by a really nice hug.

She just totally decked him, she's such a Brandie.

weasel stank When a person pours on the cheap cologne or perfume and thinks they smell fine.

Holy Buckets! Jane's back to using the weasel stank again. Damn.

booty text The lazy, low-commitment version of the booty call.

So go on over to Urban Dictionary and amuse yourself. You'll definitely learn something new.

Six Ways Blogs Are Changing the Web by Jim Lodico at SocialMedia Examiner

Google Analytics metrics

I use Google Analytics to track the metrics for my site. I have always been interested in statistics and numbers so Google Analytics definitely delivers on that. One of the metrics that I find interesting is where in the world my blog readers live/work. Here are the top ten places I get my visits from, in order from most to least:

  1. United States
  2. India
  3. France
  4. Canada
  5. China
  6. United Kingdom
  7. Japan
  8. Guam
  9. Bulgaria
  10. Greenland

Now the last two really have me scratching my head: Bulgaria and Greenland. Apparently they are interested in what I have to say!

Warren Buffett channels Axl Rose

The earth has apparently stopped on its rotational axis and started spinning the other direction. How do I know this? Warren Buffett, the greatest investing guru of all time, dresses up like Axl Rose and sings in a Geico commercial.

Passing of the gas

I wonder why discussions of bodily functions can be so darn hilarious. A blog that I read frequently ran a contest recently about embarassing farts. Yes, you read that right. And the entries for the contest are in the comments section. Go there and prepare to do some laughing: ShaunaGlenn

My family seems to revel in the awesomeness of their gas-passing. I, on the other hand, am the prude of the family. The kill-joy, if you please. I frown upon their gross public displays of gassiness. But, I do understand there are times when a person has to do what a person has to do. And as you will find when you go to Shauna Glenn's Letterrip contest, people have emitted some amazing sounds and fluids from their hind ends in some pretty embarassing locales.

Mommy Rage

Mommy Rage

Here is an opinion piece by writer Denise Albert about her Mommy Rage. You should see the comments that are pouring in about this on their website!

She reminds me of someone I used to be very good friends with, but shall hereby remain nameless. That friend of mine had the same attitude as this Denise Albert. And to quote her: "Yes, I have mommy rage. I don’t hide my feelings, and if you make me angry you will know it...the bottom line is I know what I want, what I like, and how to get it done." That is just a sampling.

Irish Blogs

I like to read blogs from people in other countries. I love to see what their life is like and peek into their day to day activities.

Here is a new blog I recently started to visit. Irish Cottage Dreams is a look inside the life of a blogger in a small village in Ireland:

Aiming Low

There is no sense in me discussing the arctic freeze that is gripping the nation this week. We all already know about it. And I am on the Texas gulf coast were it is practically balmy. We are at 33 degrees right now. The reason I say it is balmy is because I was looking at the weather.com map of current temperatures and those poor souls in Montana are sitting around in -21 degree weather. That's a full 54 degrees colder than us! So I'm not complaining. Much. I'm sure I'll be doing some complaining when the power and gas bills arrive next month.

In other news, I wanted to push this great website I visit often: Aiming Low: Taking Low To New Heights. This website glorifies those who aim not to strive constantly for perfection. it is made up of a whole gang of women who write about their lack of perfection. They positively revel in it. How refreshing is that?
